This COVID pandemic has taught us many things. As an entrepreneur many, many, more things – some of it pleasant and a lot of it unpleasant… 😉 Not that I dislike learning – I love it. But next time, Teacher Nature, can you please be a little gentler? 😊

Among other things, this experience has taught me the importance of relationships… And family…

The Family at Home

Yes, the family at home is definitely important. This lockdown has meant a lot of time spent with the family. I have had fun bonding with the kids and the spouse. With the luxury of lots and lots of time. We learnt more about each other, our little insecurities, faults and strengths to an extent that we haven’t had the luxury of earlier… After all life, in its pace and drudgery does trample upon the nuances of relationships and understanding, doesn’t it?

The Family outside of home

There is a family outside of home too – with as much shared trust and bonding… I, for the last 5 years, have been working out of a shared co-working space, Incubinet. Initially it was because it was a cost-effective way to set up. And, hey, it did not come with the accusatory glances of waiters in my work space when I was setting up Beyonder Experiences – coffee shops like CCD and Starbucks… 😉

And then we became pals – the founders of Incubinet, Vrushali and Soumya. As also the bunch of fun chaps around. It is strangely comforting to see other startup founders struggling in the same boat as you. And succeeding… Gives one great strength in a solid support system, the importance of which is often under-recognized. Vrushali and Soumya, especially – the way they have built this business up from scratch is a delight to watch…

Slowly, we have all become fast friends in a tight-knit group that has each others’ backs. And sharing – knowledge, operations, marketing, logistics… Whatever… And that’s a big thing – this support and more importantly, a fall back option like a kind of security net…

In this family outside of home, there are the seniors, the naughty kids, the ever-present helpful uncles, the pillars of support, the cousins who are in the same boat, the brothers who know what you are going through… Even wannabe musicians… and those who can’t help materially but are just there for you to have a drink or share a joke and let out stress… I won’t name anyone – you know who you guys are… 😉

This family outside of home is what I now call the Incubinet family. A bunch of hard-working, harder-partying, young and not-so-young birds. A bunch of birds who share fun, sorrow, worry, jokes, connections, knowledge… at times, even beer… 😊

Here’s to my family outside of home – a family that’s as important to my joy and business as the family at home…

More power, success, joy and beer to Vrushali, Soumya and all the crazy, fun-loving folks at Incubinet…

Cheers!
